Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT)
Fascia is a form of connective tissue which surrounds muscles, organs, nerves, bones, and other structures throughout the body. Fascia protects these structures, supports their positions, and allows for smooth movement. Fascia can also develop tension, related to trauma, injury, stress, and more.
In babies, fascial strain can be caused by prolonged or precipitous labor, breech positioning, restricted movement (ie: mother on bed rest; excessive use of containers or other baby seats/positioning devices), and more. Fascial strain can contribute to torticollis, generalized tension, and difficulty using the tongue for effective feeding. Fascial tension or strain can also impact frenectomy results by disgguising tethers within tight fascia, as well as drawing the tongue down, contributing to reattachment.
Our OT team has advanced training in Craniosacral Fascial Therapy through the Gillespie method, and is skilled in using these unique strategies to support movement, function, and overall regulation and well being.
